played in the 2-5 game at caesar's palace.
200 min, no max buy-in.
so i double up early with kk vs qq. so i'm at 900 now from 400 to start.
asian dude. solid but a little crazy. calls my 45 dollar raise heads up with 10s6s.
i have kk on the button. flop comes qs 10s 6h. i bet 50 he calls. turn comes jd. i bet 150 he calls. river is 6c. i bet 200 he just calls.
ouch. should of bet more on the flop, but i put him on aq and wanted him to raise.
play for a few hours and nothing really happens. get back to even + at 440ish, then get 88 on the button. i limp. flop comes kj8 rainbow. same dude bets 25, i make it 75. turn comes A. he checks i bet 100. he goes all in. i think for a minute. i put him on ak and call. he proudly shows his ak having put me on kj. i show my set and rake the pot.
three days in a row with 6 bills at the 2-5 game. i may be getting into the swing of things finally.
only time will tell. but i am definitely confident that only a large bankroll is keeping me away from finding out where i stand against the big boys.
side note: i felt like a pea. someone jokes about an all in situation. "run it twice" they say. i ask the dealer if they can do that here. as i'm looking at the dude's money next to me, which is at least 18k, the dealer says, "no, not in these small games"
so i've been following the advise of john scarne in his book scarne's guide to modern poker. (given to me by my uncle fizzer a few years back when i stayed with them) don't lose more than the buy-in in one day and cash out when you have doubled that buy-in. well, i have been leaving when i get to 1000 after buy-in of 400. i guess it's a good idea. but the thought of doubling up with a k on the table is pretty enticing. i will continue to walk when i'm ahead like this awhile still. i think i need to get a couple of k in the black before i starting to go for the next level. play within your means travis, i have to say.
i'm playing against some real big hitters lately. i still have a ways to go, but i'm learning every day.
i need more tournament practice. that's the best way to come up on a big chunk on change.
katy will be here tomorrow. i pick her up at the airport at 8.
anyone have a horse they like for the derby? i keep seeing pyro on the board.
might have to bet it, just because i can.

I don't have any real derby info, but Eight Belles has gotten a lot of press since she's one of the rare fillies to make it in. The top 3 in the odds are also getting a lot of notice as they usually do: Big Brown 3-1, Colonel John 4-1, and your Pyro 6-1. I'm terrible at winning anything at the track since I always want to bet at least a relative long shot since the payout is so much sweeter. Oh, and Hillary Clinton's betting on Eight Belles, like that means jack squat.
I may still throw down a couple bucks on Z Humor or Monba, just to make the derby party interesting.
