now at Sahara

the dam was a wonder to behold.
i have to say though that i was more impressed with the super highway they're building over the top of it.
trucks and large vehicles are not permitted to cross the bridge, and all other vehicles have to go through a security check point. kind of like taking off your shoes at the airport. total bs. the illusion of security.

i'm at the sahara now until friday. they have a pretty big draw for their tournaments. 45+20 3 times a day. i played in the 7pm one, was doing well until i went all in with aq to ak. i really dont like tournaments. increasing blinds demands good fortune. plus a majority of the players are just dicks. they act like they're God's gift to poker. when in actuality many have very poor cash game skills. oh well, i need to continue to get practice in the next 2 months.

played at the Venetian on sat night for like 30 minutes. won 200 that quick, i got like 7 pocket pairs in like 20 hands, three in a row once. then devon and stacy met up with me and we painted the town red. rode the roller coaster at ny ny and then met up with some locals at a bar south of the strip. vegas is all non-smoking in most places except the casino floor, but this place didn't care. the air was filled with cigarette and cigar smoke, they even had machines to buy cigs and cigars behind the bar.
a dont ask, dont tell policy.

if there is a pool going, i can be bought! i hold valuable information to the outcome of that possible wager.
i'll hold off on the announcement to see what the bidding brings.

i'm gonna post some of my pics if i can figure out how to do it.
i saw on cnn that 2 people died in a skydiving accident in Longmont. the older i get the less my desire to check that one off the list becomes.
i hear its snowing in boulder. so i better get out to the pool before it gets too hot.
will be at the Venetian tonight. probably the best poker room in town right now.
got a lead on the Red Rocks, heard its a great poker room, it's way north so it might be a while before i check it out.

off with the clothes, on with the tan.

I've been getting some negative feedback for not commenting, so here are my comments: Annie, I always knew you had my back, thanks for reiterating, the 4-inch heel was a very nice touch! Travis, yes I will still love you if you come back broke, I hope the reverse is true since I have so much faith in you that I have given my notice! (no, not really, just indulging in a quick fantasy!) Eric, thanks for all your sage advice and support you've been sending Travis!

$45+20 sounds like a fun tourney. After "painting the town red" with Stacey and Devon on Saturday night, I'm guessing you didn't play much Sunday. If you did, you must have gotten some good practice playing with a hangover.

I was trying to think of healthy ways that you could incentivize yourself to play a more consistent winning game. Something like, if you lose more than $200 in a night, the next day you can only eat salads. That way the next time you are thinking about pushing with a small pocket pair, you will think, "Am I sure enough that I have this person beat that I'm willing to risk tomorrow being a salad day?" Think about it. You will be rewarded with the loss of a few lbs if you have a losing streak. (not saying you need to lose any lbs, but you know).

Similarly, you can reward yourself if you make, say over $400 in a day. Maybe entering a tournament the next day? Of course if you "hate tournaments" that isn't much of a reward is it?

There just needs to be some kind of inducement to help you a) quit while you are ahead on a given day and b) quit before you are down too much on a given day. How else do you get any consistency? Maybe set a time to reevaluate where you are at (after 6 hours or so). Eh, I'm sure you will find something, it is all about trial and error at this point I guess.

So I saw a bad movie that takes place in Vegas called "Lucky You," or something like that. It had Eric Bana (that Aussie who played the Hulk, and was in some other stuff I can't remember) and Drew Barrymore. Bana is a professional poker player, and Barrymore is some kind of singing robot. They fall in love...at least as much as a poker player and a robot can.

There are some ok poker scenes, they do way too much talking to explain everything. Many real pros make cameos, but the only pro with a speaking part was Sam Farha, and I couldn't understand what he said. Anyway, Jennifer Harmon is in it, and she does this dramatic thing after she loses a hand to Bana. She makes a slow checking motion with her fist while looking at him, with a smile. Is this code for something? The look on her face was somewhere between "I want to have your children" and "I'm going to eat your children." Anyway, the movie tried to make it seem like the checking thing is what the players do to show each other respect. Also, Bana tips the people who cash out his chips. Have you ever done this? it kinda makes sense but I've never done it, or seen it. But it's not like I've ever cashed out 11K.

Robert Duvall plays Bana's two-time WSOP champ father. The two of them go crazy playing Guts at some point. As a gambling movie, this flick could have been rated "not horirble" had the robot romance not taken up screen time and space. I think at some point the robot points out that in poker, someone has to lose for someone else to win. Robot is deep.

I hope you wanted an incoherent movie review amongst your comments, because then, look! It's your lucky day.

Hope Luck's being a Lady to you.
